Canonical robot record
Overview
TurtleBot 4 is the next generation of the world's most popular open-source mobile robotics platform, developed by Clearpath Robotics in partnership with Open Robotics and aimed at educators, researchers, and developers. It was designed for ROS 2 from the ground up and combines an iRobot Create 3 mobile base with a Raspberry Pi compute module, a stereo depth camera, and a 2D LiDAR for localization, mapping, and navigation.
The platform comes in two configurations: a full-featured Standard model with an OLED display, accessible power and USB ports, and a taller sensor tower, and a more compact, lower-cost Lite model. Both share the same mobile base and core sensing capabilities, with auto-docking for unattended charging.
TurtleBot 4 is sold worldwide through authorized distributors and is positioned as an affordable, fully expandable entry point into modern ROS 2 robotics. Note that the robot is manufactured by Clearpath Robotics (now part of Rockwell Automation), not ROBOTIS, whose US store currently lists only the earlier TurtleBot 3.
RoboZaps maintains this record as part of its canonical robotics database. Specs are source-verified where linked; the record compares public facts across manufacturers rather than representing a single robot maker.
